Pamana Canal Cruise
Iowa Class Battleship Pamana Canal Cruise
Oct 30- Nov 9, 2001
We set sail on the afternoon of October 30, 2001 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on the Sun Princess and returned to Ft. Lauderdale on November 9, 2001.
Our T-shirts were courtesy of the Cruise Connection, the group photo; see No.120, courtesy of the Wisconsin Association. Each guest received a bottle of wine, tote bag and a $50 on board credit, plus a one hour Cocktail Party all courtesy of the Cruise Line. This cruise sure had a lot of perks. Battleship sailors know how to live it up.
Our Ports of Call were Cartagena, Panama Canal, Colon, Limon and Cozumel. Due to Hurricane Michelle our schedule stop to Grand Cayman was cancelled. Instead we visited Costa Maya.
The weather was great, we had a little rain the morning we visited Cozumel, but that didn’t stop the ladies from shopping.
It was great seeing our Wisconsin crewmembers, their family and friends. It was also great to meet and greet former IOWA and MISSOURI crewmembers. We had a two-hour cocktail party courtesy of the Cruise Line and on another day the ship let us use one of their cocktail lounges for two hour for sea stories. Boy, with three battleships represented, did the sea stories flow. We hope our sister ships had as good a time as we did, we enjoyed being with them. This was a 10-day cruise that’s going to make it rough to take a 7-day cruise in the future.
Dick and Claire Hamann worked hard for this cruise and their efforts certainly paid off. Everything went off without a hitch. Thanks guys!!
